Ghanaian media personality and entrepreneur Afua Asantewaa embarked on her second attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest individual singing marathon.
Her initial endeavour in December 2023 concluded after 126 hours and 52 minutes but after review she was disqualified, making the existing record of 105 hours set by India’s Sunil Waghmare in 2012 still stand.
In this renewed pursuit, Asantewaa’s family, including her husband, Kofi Aduonum, and her parents, have been visibly supportive.
A video circulating on social media captures her parents dancing enthusiastically, while her husband cheers her on at the Heroes Park Annex in Kumasi.
Despite the familial support, public reactions have been mixed. Some social media users express concern that Asantewaa’s relentless pursuit of the record may be causing undue stress to her husband.
One commenter remarked, “Isn’t Afua stressing her parents and her husband? I wish her well though.” Another suggested, “The husband should have applied for Guinness sleepless thorn so that they win together maybe they didn’t notice on time.”
Others lauded the husband for supporting her to achieve her dreams of being in the GWR book.
Anyway, after exhausting 122 hours, Afua Asantewaa Aduonum finally brought her singathon to an end.
