Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has thrown his support behind Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey amid growing discussions surrounding the player ahead of Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.

Ampofo Ankrah urged Ghanaians to stand firmly behind the experienced midfielder, insisting that Partey deserves the full backing of the nation as the Black Stars prepare for the tournament.

“Thomas Partey needs our full support. He is innocent until proven otherwise,” the NSA boss stated.

His comments come following reports in sections of the foreign media suggesting that some England players could refuse to shake Partey’s hand when Ghana face England in their Group L clash at the World Cup.

The possibility has generated widespread debate among football fans, with many questioning whether such a move would be appropriate if it were to happen.

Ampofo Ankrah, however, believes the Black Stars should not be distracted by external conversations and instead remain focused on the task ahead.

“The suggestion by some foreign media outlets that England players might refuse to shake his hand when the two teams meet should be ignored. Focus is key,” he added.

Partey is expected to play a pivotal role for Ghana at the World Cup, where the Black Stars will face Panama, England, and Croatia in the group stage as they chase a place in the knockout rounds.
