Dribbling is an art, and Ghana is its architect.
Three Ghanaian Premier League stars—Fatawu Issahaku, Mohammed Kudus, & Antoine Semenyo—lead the way in dribbling in the Premier League.
Given the array of stars in arguably Europe’s best league, it’s quite a remarkable achievement by the lofty standards of the league.
The influx of stars produced from Ghana to England over the years has been the envy of many nations.
Tony Yeboah and Michael Essien are but a few notable ones who will be difficult to ignore and set the league alight.
More recently, Mohammed Kudus gets West Ham fans and the London Stadium at the edge of their seats anytime he picks up the ball.
West Ham knew what they were going in for when they acquired Kudus from Ajax in the 2023/24 season.
Kudus has not been the only Ghanaian menace causing havoc for opponents.
Antoine Semenyo has steadily and quietly grown into Bournemouth’s talisman, as has Fatawu Issahaku made remarkable strides for Premier League returnees Leicester City in his debut season.
3Sports takes an inside look into the dribbling numbers of these Ghanaian stars.
Fatawu Issahaku, Leicester City
Surprise, surprise, but beyond fathom, Issahaku is top of the list in the league for the most successful dribbles.
The winger’s league-high came at Old Trafford before November’s international break when he single-handedly ran United’s defence into the ground.
Casemiro had a torrid time in midfield against Issahaku, who literally had a stroll in the park despite Leicester losing 3-0.
His 29 successful league dribbles are the most in the division, beating established dribblers such as Doku, Mitoma, Bernado Silva, and Saka.
However, Leicester will have to do without Issahaku, who is always capable of springing a surprise, as the Ghanaian picked up an ACL injury on international duty.
His season is over, and he will be hoping his side are in the English top flight when he returns.
Mohammed Kudus
Maybe the most expected name among the top three’s.
A name that is beginning to cause delight in the league is Kudus.
Even when West Ham struggled at the start of the season, Kudus’ star shone brightest.
An innate talent, Kudus glides past defenders at will.
Kudus is adept at dribbling. He runs rings around defences, drops a shoulder, dummies one way, and goes the other.
His ability to move through the lines in tight spaces is second to none. Perhaps the most naturally gifted among the top three.
His 28 successful dribbles put him 2nd. He will be hoping to join up with his West Ham teammate as he completes his five-match ban.
Antoine Semenyo
Semenyo has matured into the role as Bournemouth‘s talisman, providing clutch moments for the Cherries thus far.
With 4 goals, Semenyo is Bournemouth’s top scorer this season and has taken to life after Dominic Solanke’s departure pretty much easily.
Not only is Semenyo scoring, but he is leaving defences in sixes and sevens.
His physicality, power, and strong running make him difficult to stop.
His ambidextrous nature (ability to use both feet) makes him slip past the grasp of opponents easily.
With 24 successful dribbles, Semenyo is placed third
Antoine Semenyo running at you at full pace is like a steaming train, difficult to stop.
