Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 has crossed the $1bn mark at the global box office, becoming the highest-grossing film of 2026 so far.
The animated sequel has earned $1.022bn worldwide, including $448m from cinemas in the US and Canada and $573m from international markets.
Directed by Pixar veteran Andrew Stanton, the fifth instalment in the popular franchise follows Woody, voiced by Tom Hanks, Buzz Lightyear, voiced by Tim Allen, and Jessie, voiced by Joan Cusack, as they navigate a new challenge after their owner Bonnie becomes attached to a smart tablet designed for children called Lilypad.
The film opened in June with a $160m debut and has continued to attract audiences throughout the summer, helped by positive word-of-mouth and its original soundtrack, which includes a contribution from Taylor Swift titled “I Knew It, I Knew You.” The latest success further strengthens the long-running popularity of the Toy Story franchise.
Toy Story 5 is now the third film in the series to surpass $1bn globally and is on track to overtake Toy Story 4, which earned $1.07bn, as the highest-grossing entry in the franchise. It also becomes one of the few films released this year to reach the $1bn milestone, alongside The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Michael.
