Toyota Ghana has officially launched the new-generation RAV4 in an effort to promote sustainable mobility solutions in Ghana. The compact SUV, which the company said is toughened for the Ghanaian road and harsh environmental conditions, is equipped with a self-charging hybrid electric system.

The all new RAV4 hybrid comes with a five-year warranty, real-time vehicle connectivity and one-year free service package.

Speaking at the launch; at the company’s showroom, on the Tema Motorway, the Head of Sales Operations at Toyota Ghana, Andrew Lamptey, explained that the vehicle has advanced technology that charges the battery through its internal combustion engine and regenerative braking without requiring a plug-in to charge.

“When you are braking, you are getting that energy back into the battery, stored; and you can use that to move the vehicle. If you’re are moving from here to Tamale; you don’t need to charge the vehicle or think about a place to charge it,” he said.

The Managing Director of Toyota Ghana, Takeshi Watanabe, emphasised that the hybrid system is already widely accepted globally. “We as Toyota sold 4.4 million units of hybrid electric systems globally in just for one year, during 2025. We believe the hybrid electric system will be accepted in Ghana as well,” he said.

Mr. Lamptey said the new RAV4 has been configured to endure demands of the harsh Ghanaian environment, noting that the manufacturer considered local road conditions, dust and mud in the vehicle’s design. “We are driving on the nature of roads that we have in this country. It is taken care of. This vehicle has been designed to withstand all this,” he said.

He added that Toyota Ghana will provide free service for 20,000-kilometre milage and a five-year warranty to all RAV4 buyers. He indicated that the new RAV4 has the ‘My Toyota Connect’ , a system that links the vehicle directly to its distributor – saying in the event of a malfunction, both the owner and Toyota Ghana receive instant alerts to allow for proactive assistance.

The RAV4 has sold more than 15 million units worldwide, making it one of Toyota’s most popular models. Mr. Watanabe expressed confidence in its appeal on the local market. “In terms of volume, it’s up to our valued customers. I hope as many Toyota customers as possible will own this vehicle,” he said.

The company described the RAV4’s hybrid as its most significant update yet, positioning the model to compete in a market that is increasingly attentive to fuel efficiency and total cost of ownership.

The new RAV4 hybrid joins Toyota Ghana’s line-up, which includes the Land Cruiser 300, Land Cruiser Prado, Land Cruiser 70 series, Corolla and Corolla Cross.
