A woman living in the United Kingdom has shared what she describes as the biggest regret of her life, revealing how she allowed negative influences from friends to contribute to the collapse of her marriage.
Speaking on SVTV Africa, the woman recounted how her perspective on marriage changed after relocating to the UK through the support of her husband.
According to her, she became close to a group of single women whose lifestyle appeared glamorous and carefree, leading her to envy their way of life.
She explained that her friends frequently made negative remarks about marriage and portrayed singlehood as a more enjoyable and rewarding lifestyle.
“When I got to the UK, the friends I made would subtly trash-talk marriage, and I saw them living the life. They drove big cars and wore expensive clothing, and I became envious,” she said.
The woman admitted that she gradually began creating tension in her marriage and intentionally made life difficult for her husband.
“I started causing trouble in my marriage and really frustrated my husband to the point where we had to divorce because I intentionally did things that made his life unbearable,” she disclosed.
According to her, her friends had convinced her that single women in the UK enjoyed numerous benefits and greater freedom, making marriage seem unnecessary.
She further revealed that she often discussed private issues in her marriage with her friends, while becoming increasingly disrespectful towards her husband.
“I even started calling him a useless man and would go back to those friends to tell them everything happening in my marriage,” she said.
However, after the marriage ended, reality set in. The woman said she struggled to find meaningful relationships and instead encountered men who were either heavily involved in alcohol consumption or interested only in physical relationships.
“It was after my marriage ended and I was getting only drunkards and men who were only interested in intercourse that I realised they were all miserable women and were only recruiting me so I could experience their misery,” she stated.
Reflecting on her experience, she described the decision as a painful lesson and expressed deep regret over how she treated her former husband.
