UniMAC’s Institute of Film and Television (UniMAC-IFT) on September 23 received a generous donation, valued at $25,000, from the Elba Hope Foundation, an international grantmaking public charity founded by Idris and Sabrina Elba.
The donation, made up of state-of-the-art studio equipment, is to enhance the training of Ghana’s future filmmakers and support the growth of the country’s film industry.
Presenting the equipment on behalf of the Elba Hope Foundation, Mariam K. Buahin – the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Akuna Group Ghana had this to say:
“This is part of our wider commitment to education and employability across Africa. We see creative industries as a powerful pathway for economic development, innovation, and cultural leadership. Partnerships like this are how we translate hope into action: working alongside institutions like UniMAC, local communities, and international partners to create real, lasting impact.”
Receiving the items at its campus located at Cantonments, the Rector of UniMAC-IFT, Prof. Samuel Yirenkyi expressed sincere gratitude to the foundation for honouring its promise made earlier in the year.
Prof. Yirenkyi extended a call to well meaning individuals and institutions to emulate the example set by the Elba Foundation and support the development of the next generation of film makers for the African continent.
The UniMAC Institute of Film and Television (formerly NAFTI), established in 1978, is a leading institution in film and television production education in Ghana.
The Institute has been working towards becoming a world-class film training center, with support from the government and other partners. The donation from the Elba Hope Foundation is a significant boost to its efforts to provide high-quality training and resources to students.
Present at the donation event were the Pro Vice-Chancellor of UniMAC, Prof. Winston Abroampa, the Rectors of the other UniMAC Constitute Institutes,Directors, Deans, Heads of Departments, faculty and staff across the UnMAC University.
The donation from the Elba Hope Foundation, is a commitment to advancing educational and economic opportunities for young people in Africa. The foundation’s mission is rooted in hope and powered by purpose, with a focus on empowering youth through education, creative expression, and career-building pathways.
