The University of Ghana (UG) has directed undergraduate students whose Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) falls below 1.00 at the end of the 2025/2026 academic year to withdraw from their programmes.

The directive was contained in a notice issued by the university’s Academic Affairs Directorate and published on its official Facebook page.

According to the notice, students must obtain a CGPA of at least 1.00 and meet their respective School or Departmental requirements to progress to the next academic level. The university stated that there is no provision for probation under the regulation.

The directive applies to students whose CGPAs fall below the required threshold after all grades for their registered courses for the 2025/2026 academic year have been received.

How affected students can withdraw

The university has advised affected students to first check their CGPAs on the Management Information System (MIS) Web.

They are then required to log in to the Student Services (STS) Portal at sts.ug.edu.gh/services using their Student ID and PIN and select the “Withdrawal Request” option to begin the process.

For some programmes, the relevant School or Department will initiate the withdrawal process on behalf of affected students. However, the notice did not specify which programmes fall under this arrangement.

Where students can seek assistance

Students who require clarification have been advised to contact their respective College Academic Offices.

The university also encouraged students to seek support and guidance from the Careers and Counselling Directorate.

The directive is based on Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017), which outlines the academic progression requirements for undergraduate students.
