In a decisive move to protect its community, the University of Ghana has suspended all social gatherings on its campus with immediate effect.
The notice, issued by Prof. Rosina L. Kyerematen, Dean of Student Affairs, on June 25, 2025, targets week celebrations and activities organised by GRASAG, SRC, JCR, departmental, and school associations, citing the need to safeguard the health and well-being of students and staff.
This comes as a response to the rising number of COVID-19 infections within the university premises.
The suspension, effective until further notice, reflects the administration’s commitment to prioritising public health amid the evolving situation. Key student organisations, including GRASAG (Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana), SRC (Students’ Representative Council), and JCR (Junior Common Room), alongside departmental and school associations, have been directly affected by this decision.
The notice emphasises the necessity of these measures to ensure the safety of the university community.
This resurgence marks a challenging chapter for the University of Ghana, which has previously implemented stringent measures during the initial waves of the pandemic. The suspension of social activities is expected to impact upcoming events, potentially disrupting the vibrant campus life that students have come to cherish.
