The 75th New Year School and Conference has opened with a call on all to leverage opportunities that the digital space provides to enhance sustainable development and economic growth. Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia made the call and said the “government’s digital agenda over the years has yielded positive results through the various digital initiatives. It is for this reason that the government is committed to establishing the Digital Youth Village at the University of Ghana”.
Hosted by the University of Ghana School of Continuing and Distance Education, the annual New Year School and Conference, which marks its 75th year, is focused on Nurturing Resilience: Adopting Technology and Embracing Humanism for Sustainable Development.
The conference, which is designed to address challenges faced by institutions, will also underscore the importance of developing resilience, leveraging technology, and promoting human values and dignity.
Vice President Bawumia said the growth of an economy hinges on the use of technology to change the way things are done.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah-Amfo, said the University has over the last few years leveraged technology to enhance teaching and learning, stressing that the theme for the 75th New Year School falls in line with the University’s quest to embrace the digital transformation in the country. She shed more light on some ongoing projects.
Chairman of the Annual New Year School Corporate Advisory Team, Samuel Okudzeto, while commending the government for their assistance over the years, called for support to help build the technology village for the university.
The outcome of the three-day conference deliberations will be documented and presented to relevant authorities for potential policy interventions, ensuring that the wealth of knowledge shared during the event translates into actionable initiatives.
