The appointment of Chris Hughton, former Republic of Ireland defender, as the new coach of Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, has sparked mixed reactions among Ghanaians.
Hughton, who was born to a Ghanaian father, was appointed on Sunday, though the details of his contract with the Ghana Football Association have not been disclosed yet. The Association has stated that an official announcement will be made in due time.
This appointment is considered a step up for Hughton, as he previously held the role of technical advisor during Otto Addo’s 10-month tenure as head coach. Hughton was given the top job after Addo resigned in December following Ghana’s unsuccessful World Cup campaign.
