Kim Lars BjrkegrenBlack Queens coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has expressed disappointment with his teams nervousness in the closing stages of their 1-1 draw against Mali at the 2026 Womens Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).Ghana secured qualification to the quarter-finals after Evelyn Badus first-half header was cancelled out by Kadidiatou Diabates second-half free-kick goal in the final Group D fixture on Thursday.The Black Queens started strongly and created several chances through Doris Boaduwaa, Grace Asantewaa and Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah before Badu eventually broke the deadlock with a well-taken header from Comfort Yeboahs cross.However, Mali responded shortly after the interval and Ghana were unable to find a winning goal despite further opportunities, including a close-range header from Boaduwaa and another effort from Badu that was ruled out for offside.Bjorkegren admitted his side should have managed the game better after taking the lead and believes they could have avoided the late pressure from Mali.”The only thing I can be disappointed about is the fact that we were nervous in the end. We should have closed this game much earlier.”The Swedish coach, however, acknowledged that such moments are part of tournament football and highlighted the need for better decision-making.”I agree with you, it’s a little bit game management in some situations. I think, as coaches, you maybe want more to secure the win or the point in the end.”Ghana finished second in Group D and will face Malawi in the quarter-finals on Sunday, August 9, in Rabat.
