Seidatu Wahab says Ghanas Black Maidens were determined to beat Canada after her Player of the Match performance helped secure a 2-0 victory and a place in the Round of 16.
The midfielder produced a commanding display in the centre of the pitch as goals from Linda Achiaa and Christiana Ashiaku sealed Ghanas progress. The result sends the team through to a meeting with Argentina on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
Wahab admitted she had struggled for form in recent matches but said the qualification decider demanded her best performance.
I’m really excited. Lately, in my matches, I have been down, but this is the final game. Not the final, but this is the qualification match, so I have to bring my all out, she said.
The Black Maidens captain said victory was their sole objective against Canada, rather than settling for a draw or risking defeat.
The match was really tough, but I have to show I’m a leader. So, I brought all what I have in me. We really came for a win. That’s the only thing we came for. No draw, no loss, but a win.
Wahabs influence was particularly evident in midfield, where the combative player helped Ghana cope with the demands of the match. She said difficult situations bring out the best in the team.
It was really a tough game, but nothing is really tough for the Maidens, she added.
The midfielder also thanked the people who had supported her, including her best friend, her parents and her team-mates.
I would like to thank my best friend. Yeah, she’s the person I really thank, and my parents too. My teammates, they really helped me.
