Kinna Likimani, daughter of Ghana’s prolific writer, the late Ama Ata Aidoo has called out Ghanaians to embrace their culture and provide an environment that allows young people to be creative.
Speaking in memory of her late mother on the GTV Breakfast Show, Kinna Likimani spoke of the essence of creativity and noted that every aspect of human existence is about creativity including technology, sports, and writing.
“Here we are celebrating Ama Ata Aidoo and we are sayings that she is one of the greatest Ghanaian African ever and you will not allow your children to be creative. This is what is killing Ghana. Architecture is about creativity and our environment doesn’t even reflect our creativity,” she lamented.
However, she commended the Northern region for being creative in naming their streets and called for other regions follow suit.
“The first time I went to Tamale, the street names were etched in paintings. I was so blown away. It is something so little but it is not in Accra. I’d never seen that before,” she stated.
“If you are doing a toll booth, why do we have this ugly square things? Why can’t we make a little hut or something?
Why are we consuming this Mexican, Korean culture …why ain’t we doing more with our environment”, she asked?
