President of the Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters (FAGE), Davies Narh Karboe, has said the country possesses the land, climate and human capital required to achieve food self-sufficiency and become globally competitive in agriculture.

Speaking ahead of the third Ghana Horticulture Expo 2026, scheduled for June 11 to 13 at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra, he stressed that agricultural self-reliance must be pursued as a national priority through innovation, strategic partnerships and sustained investment.

“Ghana possesses the land, the people, the climate and the potential to feed itself and compete globally,” he said, adding that the country must focus on producing what it consumes while expanding exports to international markets.

The expo, themed “From soil to sovereignty: Building Ghana’s agricultural self-reliance through innovation,” is being organised by FAGE in partnership with the Ghana Export Promotion Authority and Ghana Export-Import Bank.

The event is expected to bring together farmers, exporters, agribusinesses, investors, researchers, policymakers and development partners to explore opportunities within the horticultural sector and strengthen Ghana’s agricultural value chain.

Organisers say the expo will promote innovation, value addition, export growth and sustainable agricultural development at a time when global food systems continue to face mounting pressure.

Activities lined up for the three-day programme include exhibitions of fresh fruits, vegetables, spices, herbs, processed products, greenhouse technologies, irrigation systems, agritech solutions and export-ready commodities. Business-to-business networking sessions, market linkage engagements and policy discussions will also be held to position Ghana as a competitive player in the global horticultural market.

Beyond the business opportunities, the expo is expected to highlight agriculture as a major driver of economic growth, job creation and food security, while inspiring greater participation by young entrepreneurs in the sector.

Organisers said the initiative represents a timely effort to unlock the country’s untapped horticultural potential and advance a broader ambition of achieving agricultural sovereignty and export excellence.
