Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, has expressed his disappointment over the injury setback that has ruled Mohammed Kudus out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Kudus, who was initially expected to return to full fitness in late April after suffering a hamstring problem, unfortunately suffered a step ACL that ended his season and ultimately forced his exclusion from Carlos Queiroz’s final 26-man squad.
Speaking on the situation, the Buem MP revealed the emotional weight surrounding the player’s absence from the global tournament.
“We prayed for Kudus to be fit in order to play the World Cup tournament, but injury is part of the football profession,” he said.
Kudus remains one of Ghana’s most influential modern-day players, having delivered standout performances at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he set up André Ayew’s goal and scored a brace against South Korea in a memorable group-stage display.
His absence is seen as a major blow to Ghana’s attacking strength as the Black Stars prepare for their fifth appearance at the tournament.
Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia, with their campaign set to begin on June 17 against Panama at BMO Field.
The Black Stars will then face England on June 23 at Gillette Stadium before concluding their group-stage matches against Croatia on June 27.
