We want every region to have internationally accepted stadium – Sports Minister

Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has revealed that the government is aiming to build an internationally accepted stadium in every region in Ghana.

Ussif made this statement during an appearance before the Public Accounts Committee earlier this week to account for developments in his sector.

At the moment, only the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and Accra Sports Stadium can host international games; even they can’t host certain categories of matches.

“The government policy is to ensure that every region in Ghana has a modern, internationally accepted stadium. We are making sure that we are working on the regions that do not have those facilities.

“As and when we get funds and funding arrangements are put in place, you will see us in those regions to make sure that they are completed.”

The NPP government, since coming into office, has built about 150 AstroTurfs, but the majority of them can’t host even Ghana Premier League games.
