Highlife musician, Kofi Nti has disclosed that American movie producer, Tyler Perry has settled the copyright infringement case after he used the Ghanaian artiste’s song without permission.
Kofi Nti told Onua TV’s Nana Adwoa Annan in an interview that he managed to secure a substantial amount of money from Tyler Perry after his lawyers in the UK reached out and negotiated with the movie producer.
“I did that song with Ofori Amponsah. We have a lawyer in the UK, he contacted the team so negotiations and everything went well. So, we have solved the issue, a little money was involved,” he said.
It can be recalled that in June 2024, Tyler Perry’s studios in an Instagram post used Kofi Nti’s “Odo Nwom” song which featured Ofori Amponsah in a behind-the-scenes video of Tyler Perry’s popular series, Sistas
The video went viral on social media sparking conversations about a potential copyright infringement. However, Kofi Nti says the matter has been settled.
‘Odo Nwom’ was released in 2004 by Kofi Nti, the song was included in his Rakia Odo Lastic album.
Kofi Nti is one of Ghana’s best in contemporary highlife music gaining prominence in the early 2000s.
He’s known for hit songs such as ‘Rakia’, ‘Odo Nwom or O’ waee’, ‘Bra’ among others.
