Belgium head coach Rudi Garcia has claimed that Senegal committed a big mistake in their Round of 32 tie in the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday. The Red Devils locked horns with the Teranga Lions at Lumen Field to battle for a place in the Round of 16.In a match that went to extra time, Senegal had a two-goal lead after the 75th minute thanks to goals from Habib Diarra and Ismaila Sarr.Unfortunately, Senegal failed to defend in the final 10 minutes, allowing Belgium to score two late goals courtesy of strikes from Romelu Lukaku and Youri Tielemans to force the 90 minutes to end in a 2-2 draw.Tielemans then netted a late penalty in extra time to secure a 3-2 win for Belgium and eliminate Senegal from this years World Cup.Speaking in a post-match interview, Rudi Garcia argued that Senegals decision to try and defend their 2-0 lead cost the side.Senegal lost their structure at the end of the match. They wanted to hold the score at 0-2, which was a big mistake in my opinion. That gave us confidence. Because from that 1-2, the match changed, the Belgium coach explained. After knocking out Senegal, Belgium will now prepare for a Round of 16 tie against the winner of the Round of 32 tie between the USA and Bosnia.
