He may not be a mainstream artiste, yet those who love rap music tip Lyrical Joe as one of the best rappers in Ghana, and it is not a surprise he gets very good reviews globally anytime he releases a new song.
The deep content of his songs, how he strings words together lyrically, has been widely appreciated, and Lyrical Joe says he is getting all the praise because he is well-read and educates himself to always get to the top.
In a chat with Graphic Showbiz, Lyrical Joe said he does not just rap. Instead, whatever he puts out has to make sense.
“In fact, you need to be deep to understand my music. I said in one of my songs that YouTube reactors have stopped commenting on my songs because they cannot break down my lyrics.
“A lot of thinking, research, etc. go into my music and I am someone who does not want to repeat words in different songs. I am full of vocabularies and I know where I want to take rap music.
Lyrical Joe won Best Rapper of the Year at the 2021 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) and he is defending his title at the upcoming event this year.
Throwing light on the lyrical content of his music, Lyrical Joe, real name Joseph Gamor, said for a school dropout like him, his best option was to be well-read to master his craft.
“I am a school dropout and to be able to build my brand, I decided to be well-informed to master my craft and I am proud to say my efforts have not been in vain.
“Anytime I drop a song, there are so many questions on how I am able to come up with such lyrics and it is all as a result of hard work and being knowledgeable,” he said.
“So I am taking my time, but I know I will be one of the best rappers in the world. Even now, the comments I get globally is enough to say I am doing something great,” he added.
