A Kenya Air Force officer identified as Kiprotich drowned at Diani Beach in what was supposed to be a brief, carefree moment with colleagues ahead of his new assignment, leaving his family and community in Sinendet village, Olenguruone, devastated.
According to a tribute shared on Facebook on October 27, 2026, Kiprotich had recently received a transfer to the Coast region and was looking forward to beginning a fresh chapter in his military career.
Before formally reporting for duty, he and his colleagues decided to take a swim at the popular beach resort. Strong ocean waves swept him away without warning.
A joint search and rescue operation was launched immediately after Kiprotich went missing in the water. The effort, however, ended in tragedy the following day when his body was retrieved from the ocean.
That same day had been marked on his calendar as the date he would officially begin his new duties at the Coast posting.
The timing of his death drew an outpouring of grief online, with many mourners noting the cruel irony of a young man losing his life at the very threshold of a long-awaited milestone.
