Former Black Stars midfielder Yussif Chibsah has asserted that Dr Randy Abbey, an Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) should have rather been president if academics was really the major requirement for football administration.

His comments were in response to Nana Oduro Sarfo who serves as an Executive Council member of the GFA.

The Berekum Chelsea CEO advised Stephen Appiah alongside other former footballers to seek adequate education before striving for any top position in Ghana Football following the former Black Stars captain’s call for ex-players to be acknowledged for such roles in Ghana Football.

Yussif Chibsah however thinks if Oduro Sarfo’s excuse was really tangible, Randy Abbey, who has a doctorate degree would have been heading the GFA at the expense of Kurt Okraku by now.

According to him, experience and expertise are very crucial aside from academics.

“He rushed to pass those comments. All those talks were needless from Oduro Sarfo. What is so wrong with what Stephen said?

“If academics are really what we need in running football, with all due respect, the FA president wouldn’t be there, because his own executive council member Randy Abbey has a PhD which is higher than all his [the president’s] qualifications,” Chibsah told Angel TV.

“That’s why Alhaji Grusah is a member of the Black Stars management committee.

“Consider the number of years he has managed King Faisal. Which certificate does he have? I think he[Oduro Sarfo] has rushed. He should stop attacking people’s personalities.”

“The highest decision-making body of the FA, the Executive Council equally have people without qualification. If academics was all we needed in running football, the FA president wouldn’t have appointed people without qualification.”

“But if someone’s special skills and efforts can complement those with academics, it perfects the job. That is why we have some people without education in some committees under the FA.”
