The National Science and Mathematics quiz this year is underway in Cape Coast with heated competitive quiz sessions.
In an intense and inspiring round of competition, the Archbishop Porter Girls’ Senior High School, the Mfantsiman Girls’ Senior High School and the Simms Senior High School showcased their academic prowess and speed, advancing to the 1/8th stage of the National Science and Maths Quiz 2024 (NSMQ2024).
Intense competition
At the CNC auditorium in Cape Coast, the Archbishop Porter Girls’ SHS pulled a win against the Wenchi Methodist and the Ejisuman senior high schools.
With determination and a deep understanding of complex scientific and mathematical concepts, the Archbishop Porter Girls’ secured a well-earned victory, scoring an impressive 45 points, while Ejisuman followed with 32 points and Wenchi Methodist finished with 26.
Simultaneously, the Mfantsiman Girls’ brought their A-game in a high-stakes match held at Auditorium 900 at the University of Cape Coast.
Competing fiercely against the West Africa Senior High School and the Zion College, Mfantsiman maintained their lead throughout, emerging victorious with 44 points.
The West Africa Senior High School closely followed with 42 points, while the Zion College had 40 points.
Meanwhile, in another thrilling contest at the School of Graduate Studies auditorium, UCC, the Simms Senior High School emerged victorious with 43 points, triumphing over the Kpando Senior High School, which earned 38 points and the Hope College, with a respectable 36 points.
These outstanding performances have propelled the Archbishop Porter Girls’, Mfantsiman Girls’, and the Simms Senior High Schools to the next stage, bringing pride to their respective schools and communities.
Their journey forward in the NSMQ2024 now carries the hope and support of their peers, teachers and alumni, as they continue to strive for the ultimate prize in Ghana’s most prestigious science and mathematics competition.
The NSMQ, launched in 1993 by the Primetime Limited, has grown to become Ghana’s most celebrated academic competition, aimed at inspiring interest in science and mathematics among senior high school students.
Starting as a televised quiz contest in Accra, the NSMQ quickly became a national favourite for its challenging questions and thrilling matchups between top schools.
Over the years, it has encouraged academic excellence and inspired students to pursue STEM careers, fostering friendly rivalries and strong alumni support across the country.
This year, a record-breaking 157 schools are competing, with 126 battling it out in the preliminary stage.
In a historic move, the 2024 competition has shifted to Cape Coast, a city known for its longstanding educational legacy.
