Ghana’s capital, Accra, will host the 12th Africa Armwrestling Championship in June 2023, following the official launch of the event on Wednesday.

The event, which will have over 300 pullers from the continent in participation, will come off in June 2023 with the opening ceremony slated for Friday, June 23, 2023, at the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Hall.

Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Evans Opoku Bobie, commended Charles Osei Asibey and the Ghana Armwrestling Federation for bringing the event back to the West African country after five years.

Ghana, which is the second-most-populous nation in West Africa after Nigeria, hosted the rest of the African continent in 2018.

In attendance at the launch, which took place at the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ press conference room, had the Major of Accra Hon. Elizabeth Sackey, former Major of Accra Mohammed Adjei Sowah, and Prof. Peter Twumasi.

During a Congress of the Armwrestling Federation of Africa (AFA) last year Cairo, Egypt, Ghana received a massive endorsement to become the host for the 12th edition of the Africa Armwrestling Championship a qualifying event for the 2023 Africa Games and the World Combat Games in Saudi Arabia.
