The 2026 edition of the annual Telecel Ghana Music Awards comes off tomorrow, Saturday, May 9, and as expected, the focus is firmly on the Artiste of the Year race, which has dominated conversations ahead of the event.

Since the nominees were announced in March, discussions have been intense across social media, radio, and industry circles. This year’s shortlist features Wendy Shay, Black Sherif, Medikal, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, and Diana Hamilton, all of whom have had notable runs within the year in different ways, from hit songs to performances and chart dominance.

Adding his voice to the debate is Ghanaian actor Adjetey Anang, who shared his thoughts in an exclusive chat with Felicia Osei on Onua FM. Rather than picking a clear winner, he admitted the category is one of the toughest in recent years, given how consistent all the nominees have been.

He explained that each artiste has “worked tirelessly” and contributed significantly to the music space, making it difficult to single out just one person. Still, as he broke down his personal impression of the race, he pointed to two names that stood out most to him.

According to him, Black Sherif has been very active and impactful with his music output and performances, showing strong consistency and growth. At the same time, he expressed strong admiration for Diana Hamilton, saying he personally likes her a lot and holds her work in very high regard.

He didn’t leave out the others either. Stonebwoy, whom he described as “my person,” also earned his respect for his consistency and stagecraft. Medikal and Wendy Shay were also acknowledged for their efforts and contributions over the period.

In the end, however, he suggested the race could come down to a tight contest between Black Sherif and Diana Hamilton, even though he believes Stonebwoy and the others are equally deserving in their own right.

In his view, the final outcome could be very close, but he leans slightly toward Black Sherif based on his recent body of work, while still acknowledging Diana Hamilton’s strong presence in the category.
