American sprinter and three-time Olympic medallist Tori Bowie has passed away at the age of 32.
In a statement on Instagram, World Athletics expressed their sorrow over Bowie’s death, saying: “We are deeply saddened to hear the news of Tori Bowie’s passing. She was a brilliant athlete and a wonderful person, and our thoughts are with her family and friends at this difficult time.”
Bowie’s agent, Icon Management, also released a statement saying: “We’re devastated to share the very sad news that Tori Bowie has passed away. We’ve lost a client, dear friend, daughter and sister. Tori was a champion…a beacon of light that shined so bright! We’re truly heartbroken and our prayers are with the family and friends.”
Bowie won 4x100m relay gold at the Rio 2016 Olympics, as well as 100m silver and 200m bronze. In 2017, she won the global title over 100m at the World Championships in London, along with relay gold.
