President Akufo-Addo has charged Justices of the Supreme Court to ensure strict application of the laws of the land without fear or favour.
He indicated that the Judiciary, as the third arm of government, has the mandate and responsibility to protect individual liberties and fundamental human rights of citizens.
The President made these remarks when he swore-in two Justices of the Supreme Court, Justice George Kingsley Koomsom and Justice Ernest Yaw Gaewu at a short ceremony at the Jubilee House.
He congratulated the Justices for successfully going through the rigorous scrutiny of their appointment and confirmation by the Judicial Council and Parliament.
President Akufo-Addo last year (2022) made nominations to fill expected vacancies at the apex Court following the retirement of some Justices.
The new justices were subsequently vetted and approved by parliament. At the jubilee House, the President said Ghanaians have over the years demonstrated the determination to build on a nation of accountable governance founded on the Rule of Law.
It is for this reason that the Judiciary is charged with the onerous task to enforce the Constitution and act as an arbiter in the delivery of justice.
He said the elevation of the new justices presents them the opportunity to continue to serve the nation in all matters.
He expressed the hope that they will help strengthen the judicial system.
In a remark, Justice George Kingsley Koomsom expressed gratitude to the President, Parliament and the Judicial Council for the confidence reposed in them. He pledged to serve with professionalism.
President Akufo-Addo administered the Oath of Allegiance, Judicial Oath and the Oath of Secrecy.
