A free health screening exercise organized by ASA Savings and Loans Limited at Agona Nkwanta in the Western Region has uncovered 13 cases Hepatitis B among participants.
The discovery, highest number of cases recorded has raised concerns about awareness and early detection of the disease within the community, highlighting the need for increased public education and regular health screening.
The exercise, which attracted 147 participants comprising clients, market women children as well as the elderly, formed part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme aimed at promoting preventive healthcare and improving the wellbeing of residents.
Medical Physician Assistant at Axim Government Hospital, Michael Kesse, said.

the screening also detected 11 cases of high blood pressure, seven cases of malaria and five cases of high blood glucose levels.
“Not everyone has ailment. The remaining 111 participants were healthy individuals” he mentioned.
According to him, many of those diagnosed with Hepatitis B and hypertension were unaware of their health status before the screening.
He stressed the importance of regular medical check-ups and public education to ensure early detection and treatment of diseases.
“We have seen quite a number of people since the exercise started. We provided health education before the screening and discovered that several participants were unaware of underlying health conditions, particularly Hepatitis B and hypertension,” he said.
The Kwesimintsim Area Manager of ASA Savings and Loans, Francis Gyabeng, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to supporting the health needs of its clients and host communities.
He explained that good health remains critical to economic productivity and financial stability, adding that the company believes in investing in people as part of its broader development agenda.
Mr. Gyabeng noted that many traders and elderly persons are often unable to undergo regular health checks due to financial and time constraints, making such outreach programmes necessary.
He said the company would continue to complement government efforts by undertaking community-based interventions that improve access to healthcare and enhance the quality of life of residents.
He indicated that the company would sustain similar health initiatives across its operational areas as part of efforts to promote healthy communities and strengthen its social impact.
Madam Felicia Ekua Bilson, trader at the Agona Nkwanta, expressed appreciation to the company for bringing healthcare services closer, saying the exercise had enable her to know her health status and received professional medical advice at no cost.
