New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed his condolences to the chiefs and people of the Dagbon Kingdom following the passing of Ya-Na Abukari Mahama II.
In a statement issued on Monday, July 13, Dr Bawumia described the late Ya-Na as a leader who assumed the Dagbon throne during one of the kingdom’s most challenging periods and guided it towards peace, unity, and prosperity through wisdom and patience.
He said the late king’s reign, though short, was impactful, noting that he reunited divided families, helped heal long-standing divisions within Dagbon, and championed development projects in the kingdom.
Dr Bawumia also said he personally benefited from the Ya-Na’s counsel during his tenure as Vice President and later as the New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidate, adding that it was always an honour to pay homage to him at the Gbewaa Palace.
He described the monarch’s death as a great loss to himself, the Dagbon Kingdom, and Ghana.
Dr Bawumia prayed for Allah to grant comfort to the Ya-Na’s family, the chiefs and people of Dagbon, and the nation during the period of mourning.
