A senior lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba, Dr. Isaac Brako has urged Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to follow the party’s tradition.
He has suggested to the Vice President to maintain NPP’s Muslim-Christian convention and select a Christian as his running mate to enhance the party’s chances in the December 7 polls.
The decision to choose a running mate appears to have sparked lobbying from various quarters, adding to the controversies surrounding the autonomy for Dr. Bawumia to choose his running mate.
Others have also argued and challenged Dr. Bawumia to choose a Christian as his running mate to help coax the Christian community to vote for NPP.
The former Head of the Department of Political Science at UEW, reacting to the obvious pressure on the NPP flagbearer underscored the need for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to be vigilant and strategic.
“There are a lot of names on his table, but he must take his time and ensure he follows the party’s tradition”.
The Muslim-Christian pairing has been NPP’s tradition and failure to uphold it would be problematic for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, he asserted.
He, however, recommended the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NPP to assist in choosing an eligible person who is resilient and has a good track record in the party to partner Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for victory.
