Retired Commissioner of Police and NPP parliamentary candidate hopeful for the Bekwai Constituency, COP Alex Mensah, has failed to make the cut to lead the constituency ahead of the December 7 general elections.
Private legal practitioner, lawyer Ralph Poku-Adusei, secured 662 votes to beat COP Alex Mensah, who polled 245 of the total valid votes cast.
Kingsley Opoku had one vote with Henry Opoku, who had 30 votes. There were two rejected ballots. The total number of votes cast was 940. About 982 delegates were expected to cast their ballots.

COP Alex Mensah was at the centre of the parliamentary probe into a leaked audio recording in which the content sought to oust the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

However, COP Alex Mensah reportedly described the circumstances surrounding the leaked audio as a “blessing in disguise.” He also accused the IGP of being the mastermind behind the recording to thwart his political ambitions.
According to sources in the constituency, Mr. Mensah also had the blessings of the outgoing Member of Parliament and First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei Owusu, popularly referred to as Joe Wise.
