Berekum Chelsea has set an unwanted record in the first round of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season.

Aside from being the fourth team with the worst away record, 3 points from 9 games, in the first half of the season, Christopher Ennin’s men also failed to win a single away game in the first stanza of the campaign – same as Tamale City, Karela United, Nsoatreman, and bottom-placed Kotoku Royals.

However, what makes Chelsea’s statistics more alarming in the context is that the Blues scored in every single away game they played in the first round but failed to record a single win on the road.

Saturday’s 3-1 results at the Accra Sports Stadium against giants Hearts of Oak mean the 2010/11 league champions, scored 10 away goals in 9 games while conceding 17 in the process.

They have become the first side in the 2022/23 season to score in 9 consecutive away games without winning any of them.

Bottom-placed Kotoku Royals scored in just 3 of their away games with the goals coming against Asante Kotoko, King Faisal, and Real Tamale United.

Nsoatreman scored 1 away goal in their 2-1 loss to Kotoko at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in late September 2022.

Meanwhile, Karela United’s 2 goals on the road came against Legon Cities and Accra Lions with Tamale City scoring twice against Hearts of Oak in their matchday 11 encounter which ended 3-2 in favour of the Rainbow club at the Accra Sports Stadium.
