Ghana face a tough task in Nigeria next week to secure qualification for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) after a goalless draw with the Super Eagles B on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The first-leg stalemate leaves both teams with an equal chance of advancing, but Nigeria will hope to capitalise on home advantage, while Ghana can progress with a scoring draw.
Black Galaxies started confidently, dominating possession and creating several chances but failing to convert. Nigeria, however, grew into the game, using their physicality to disrupt Ghana’s attacks and limit their effectiveness.
Late in the first half, a counterattack led by Nigeria’s Adamu Abubakar nearly broke the deadlock. Ghana’s Ebenezer Abban handled the ball to prevent a goal, conceding a dangerous free kick. Captain Junior Nduka’s effort missed the target, leaving the score level at halftime.
In the second half, Ghana intensified their efforts, with Mustapha Yakubu testing Nigerian goalkeeper Ozoemena Ani. Nigeria responded, with Papa Daniel Mustafa’s deflected shot hitting the woodwork in the 58th minute.
Ghana made tactical changes that created chances through wing play, but Nigeria’s defence stood firm. Both sides had opportunities to score but could not convert, resulting in a goalless draw.
The decisive second leg will take place in Uyo on December 28, with the winner earning a spot in the 2024 tournament.
