The Black Stars technical team members, Otto Addo, John Paintsil, and Fatawu Dauda, narrowly escaped a tragic accident on the Tarkwa-Takoradi road.
The incident happened while they were returning from Tarkwa after attending the Champions of Champions clash between Nsoatreman FC and Sarmatex FC.
The vehicle, a Land Cruiser with registration number GR 6521-21, managed to avoid a head-on collision with a pickup truck that had veered into their lane, resulting in significant damage to their vehicle.
In response to the incident, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) released a statement to reassure the public of the safety of the technical team.
According to the GFA, all three team members are currently in stable condition. They will be undergoing further medical assessments as a precautionary measure upon their return to Accra, ensuring that there are no hidden injuries.
The GFA’s statement read, “The Ghana Football Association (GFA) wishes to inform the general public that members of the Black Stars technical team were involved in a road accident earlier today while returning from Tarkwa. The team had been on an official assignment, observing the Champion of Champions clash between FC Samartex 1996 and Nsoatreman FC.”
The Association further detailed the events leading to the accident, highlighting the quick thinking of the driver which prevented a more severe outcome.
Despite the damage to the vehicle, the safety of the occupants was preserved.
In their concluding remarks, the GFA expressed their confidence in the technical team’s readiness for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers against Angola and Niger on September 5 and September 9 respectively.
They also extended their gratitude to the public for the outpouring of concern and support, urging continued prayers and backing as the team prepares for these critical matches.
