British heptathlon star Katarina Johnson-Thompson has clinched gold at the World Athletics Championship.
The 30-year-old topped the podium after running a personal best of two minutes, 5.63 seconds in the 800 metres.
Her final score of 6,740 points was 20 more than runner-up Anna Hall of the US.
Glory in Budapest marks the second time she’s won gold at the championships, following her win in Doha in 2019.
But it marks a remarkable recovery from where she was after the last Olympics in 2021, where she competed after recovering from an Achilles tendon injury only to see a calf injury ruin her comeback.
She reportedly considered retiring following her experience in Tokyo, where she limped over the finish line.
But victory in Hungary’s capital capped a remarkable recovery and will put her among the favourites for next year’s Olympic Games in Paris.

Sunday’s win came after what had been a slow start to the event for Johnson-Thompson, who was 93 points behind Hall following the 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put, and 200m on Saturday.
But the steely competitor surged into a stunning lead the following morning with a long jump of 6.54m, and a personal best of 46.14m in the javelin.
It then came down to the 800m on Sunday evening, where another personal best helped secure victory.
