The Canadian High Commission has assured of finding collective ways to offer continuous support for women in the Agricultural value chain.
This, the Acting Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, Kathleen Flynn-Dapaah believes will strengthen the agricultural front of the country and offer decent livelihood for women in the regions especially in the northern zone of Ghana.
She made these comments at the MEDA Round Table Discussions on the theme: Investing in Agriculture for Employment in Ghana.
“Our support for the Agricultural sector in Ghana is in line with our feminist international assistance policy and the UN Sustainable Development Goals particularly; Goal 5 on gender equality. Through our partnership with the government of Ghana and organizations like MEDA, we are witnessing increase in empowerment and self-reliance among women in the agricultural sector,” she said.
She also underscored the need for innovations in the agricultural value chain.
“I think it is important we talk today about how to work differently, how to be innovative, how to engage and how to reach the furthers, ”she noted .
She highlighted few projects that the Canadian High Commission has embarked on which are yielding positive results.
“Through our partnership with MEDA, the grow two projects which approved in 2021 and valued at 25 million Canadian Dollars is working to further strengthen the economic and social empowerment of 40,000 women small holder farmers, entrepreneurs and other businesses in Northern, Savannah and Upper West regions of Ghana,” she added.
