Celebrating accomplishments of Ghana’s media professionals

The 28th edition of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards, Corresponding with the Association’s 75th Anniversary, was held on September 28, 2024, at the Accra International Conference Center. The event celebrated journalistic excellence, recognising individuals and organisations that have demonstrated outstanding contributions to media in Ghana.

The theme for this year’s celebration was “75 years of excellence in journalism: The role of the media in democratic governance and elections”.

The occasion was graced by several distinguished guests, including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Minister of Information Fatimatu Abubakar, Naa Professor Edmund Nminyem Delle Chiir VIII, and United Nations Resident Coordinator for Ghana, Mr. Charles Paul Abani. Representatives from the Speaker of Parliament and USAID, among others, were also present.

The evening commenced with a cocktail party, setting a lively tone for the event, which proceeded with the main ceremony, honouring journalists for their exceptional contributions in various categories. 

Edward Adeti from the Upper East Region took home the prestigious PAV Ansah GJA Journalist of the Year award, while GBC’s Beatrice Senadju was awarded Female Journalist of the Year. 

Evans Azianor Mensah from Fourth Estate won Education Reporter of the Year, and Benedicta Gyimah Folley of the Ghanaian Times was recognised as Gender Reporter of the Year. 

Edward Adeti also secured the title of Investigative Reporter of the Year, solidifying his presence in the industry. Castro Senyalah of Media General was named Court and Crime Reporter of the Year, and Philip Teye Agbove of Fourth Estate won Online News Reporter of the Year. The Best TV Program (English) went to PM Express, hosted by Evans Mensah of Joy News, while the Best Newspaper of the Year was awarded to the Daily Graphic.

Other notable mentions include Ridwan Kareem Deen Osuman of EIB Network, who won both the Best Radio News Reporter and Best Feature Story for Radio categories, and Edmund Smith Asante of the Daily Graphic, recognised as both the Columnist Reporter and Domestic Tourism Reporter of the Year.

The event culminated in a buffet dinner, providing a Merry end to an evening celebrating the accomplishments of Ghana’s media professionals.
