CHAN 2022: We are not in Algeria to joke – Black Galaxies coach

Black Galaxies coach Annor Walker is confident his team will win the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Algeria.

Ghana returns to the competition after missing out on the three previous editions and will open their campaign against Madagascar on Sunday, January 15.

Annor Walker will be the fourth coach to lead the team to the tournament and is hopeful of being the first to win it for the two-time silver medalists.

Ghana were led by Milovan Rajevac in the maiden edition of the tournament in 2009 but failed to clinch the title when they lost to DR Congo.

Subsequently, Herbert Addo took over and failed to go past the group stage in the 2011 edition.

Maxwell Konadu restored Ghana’s fortune in 2014 by marching the team to the final once more, only to lose again to Libya and Ghana has since then struggled to participate in the tournament.

However, Annor Walker believes his players are capable of making history in Algeria.

“We didn’t come here to come and joke. We didn’t come here to look at how Algiers is. We came for a purpose. We came also to win the cup,” he said.

After their opening encounter against Madagascar, the Black galaxies will play Sudan and wrap their group phase up with a clash against the defending champions Morocco.
