Legendary Nigerian actor Pete Edochie has confirmed the separation of his junior colleague, Chioma Chukwuka Akpota, and her estranged husband.
In an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Edochie said he was shocked by the news of Chioma’s broken marriage, stressing that people must understand that the marriage union is for better or for worse.
“If you come to our Industry today, most of our ladies who got married 2- 3 years ago have all left their husbands, I was shocked that Chioma Chukwa had left her husband, Ireti Doyle, Tonto Dikeh. You take a vow when you are going to get married for better or worst, not for better or out. You will always think it’s greener on the other side, that is the mistake we all make,” Edochie said.
Edochie, who is known for his roles in popular Nollywood films such as “Things Fall Apart” and “Living In Bondage,” went on to say that he believes that many marriages in the Nollywood industry are failing because couples are not willing to put in the work.
“Marriage is not a bed of roses, it is work. You have to work at it every day. If you are not willing to work at it, then you will fail,” he said.
The legendary Nigerian actor’s comments come at a time when there is a growing trend of divorce in the Nollywood industry.
In recent years, several high-profile couples, including Tonto Dikeh, Ireti Doyle, Stella Damasus and Chika Ike, have announced their separations.
