Coach Chris Hughton has commended Black Stars’ new boy Hafiz Konkoni for his impressive showing despite joining the team only on Sunday.
Hughton spoke highly about the Bechem United player while speaking to the media after their training session on Tuesday ahead of their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Madagascar.
Having ended the Ghana Premier League season as the second top scorer with 15 goals the the 23-year-old forward became the first local-based player to earn a Black Stars call-up under Chris Hughton and immediately joined the team on Monday.
He has only been involved in one full training session having exercised separately on the first day but has already impressed Hughton.
Hughton who claimed to have followed the player for a while now lauded his maturity as well as his potential.
“I was fortunate to watch him live last weekend. I have been able to watch him on video. I thought he did well today [in training]. It wasn’t a surprise because he is a player I have enjoyed watching.
“He is a young player so I think he has a lot of development still. Speaking to him I think he is quite a mature player for his age,” Chris Hughton told the media on Tuesday.
Following the absence of both Inaki Williams and Antoine Semenyo, Hafiz Konkoni could stand a chance of making his senior debut against Madagascar on Sunday, June 18 as the Black Stars seek victory in their bid to seal qualification for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by Ivory Coast.
The team will continue with the training sessions for two more days before traveling to Antananarivo on Friday.
