Mustafa Ozat, a board member of Turkish club Hatayspor, has clarified that the information he provided about Christian Atsu’s rescue on Tuesday morning was false.

Contrary to reports that the Ghana international was found safe and responding to treatment, close relations including the family of the player revealed that efforts to contact Christian Atsu were futile.

It was also stated that the 31-year-old was nowhere to be found in the presumed hospital where he was thought to be responding to treatment.

Mustafa Ozat, who broke the news of Atsu’s survival, has admitted that the information he received appears to be false.

According to him, both Atsu and the club’s sporting director Taner Savut have yet to be found after going missing in Turkey following the massive earthquake.

“I received information that Christian Atsu was rescued from the rubble, but it was NOT true.

“I gave the same information to the press, but at the moment, the information received is that Atsu and Taner Savut are under the rubble.”
