Media mogul Ted Turner, the founder of CNN, has died at the age of 87, according to reports from US media.
Turner, who was born in Ohio, was widely regarded as a pioneer in global broadcasting. He launched CNN in 1980 as the world’s first 24-hour news channel, transforming how audiences access and consume news in real time.
His influence extended beyond television into sports and philanthropy. He owned the Atlanta Braves baseball team and later established the United Nations Foundation, while also supporting environmental initiatives, including efforts to restore bison populations in the United States. In 1991, he was named Time magazine’s Man of the Year in recognition of his global impact.
Turner later sold his media assets to Time Warner but continued to describe CNN as his greatest achievement. In recent years, he had been living with health challenges, including Lewy body dementia, which he disclosed publicly in 2018.
