Ghana Police Service on Monday confirmed coach Napari Suheru, has been arrested for assaulting a referee during a Division 1B football match near the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale on June 17, 2023.
The referee, who sustained injuries, was promptly taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
The suspect is currently in police custody and will face legal proceedings in court to answer for his actions. The Police have initiated an investigation into the incident to gather more information.

In response to the incident, the Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, held discussions with the President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, and the Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Professor Peter Twumasi.
During the meeting, they discussed the need for enhanced security measures and maintaining law and order during lower league football matches.
Dr Dampare urged both officials to notify the Police in advance of all football matches in the lower leagues, similar to the protocol followed for premier league matches. This will enable the Police to deploy adequate security measures to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants and maintain a conducive environment for the matches.
