The Convention People’s Party, CPP, has issued a 24-hour ultimatum for the resignation of NPP’s running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, from all governmental and political positions.
The party has also demanded that Dr. Opoku Prempeh retract and apologize to all Ghanaians, Africans, Nkrumaists and the world for statements he made about the Founder of the Party and Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, during his unveiling in Kumasi on Tuesday.
A statement signed by the Chairperson Independent Committee, of the CPP, Wing Commander, Patrick Nelson Sogbodjor, finds the statement as reprehensible and unbecoming of Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s stature.
The statement says questioning or comparing the contribution of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah to Ghana, Africa, and Humanity as a whole, is dead on arrival, as thirty years after his death, Kwame Nkrumah still won African of the Millennium.
While asking that the issue is dealt with with all the seriousness it deserves, the CPP calls on President Akufo-Addo, to withdraw Dr. Opoku Prempeh from his position as Minister of Energy, should he fail to resign. It also calls on Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to withdraw him as his running mate, to protect the Country’s image, and its long term political and economic fortunes.
The statement further states that Ghanaians and Nkrumaists, the world over, will hit the streets to register their displeasure if these or similar measures, are not immediately enforced within 24 hours.
