De Thompson DDT, Singer Of The Viral Hit ‘Honorable Waawe,’ Says It’s His Most Popular Song Yet

Ghanaian sound engineer and singer, De Thompson DDT, has been taken aback by the unexpected viral success of his latest song, “Honorable Waawe.” Following the December 7, 2024 elections, the song quickly became an internet sensation, topping charts on major digital streaming platforms and dominating social media spaces like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.

In an interview with Amansan Krakye, De Thompson DDT admitted that he never anticipated such overwhelming success, especially since he did no paid promotions or airplay. He pointed out that the song’s popularity grew organically, spreading through the streets and gaining traction among listeners without any financial push. “I haven’t paid money to any DJ or presenter to play the song, but it’s all over,” he remarked, clearly astonished by its natural rise.

The success of  “Honorable Waawe”  has not only elevated his career locally but has also drawn attention to his talent beyond Ghana, making him a prominent figure in the music scene. Its catchy rhythm and relatable lyrics have struck a chord with audiences, particularly during the election season, where it became widely used as a soundtrack to mock political candidates who lost.

However, De Thompson DDT clarified that the song was not created for any specific political party or as a tool to troll anyone. He explained that its core message highlights the importance of leaders performing their duties effectively. “What it basically means is that those who lost didn’t perform their responsibilities properly, so they were voted out. Next time, they need to do better when given the opportunity,” he said.

He further emphasized that “Honorable Waawe” will remain relevant beyond this election, as its message applies to every political cycle. “Every four years, the song will renew itself. It’s not as if I did the song for NDC to mock NPP. Those laughing today might also cry if they don’t perform,” he added.
