FC Barcelona have announced the return of Anderson Luis de Souza, widely known as “Deco,” to the club in a new role as sporting director.
Deco, who previously played for the club from 2004 to 2008, has signed a contract for the next three seasons.
In his capacity as sporting director, Deco will play a pivotal role in shaping FC Barcelona’s sporting philosophy and collaborating with the coaching staff to build and oversee the squad. He will also take on the responsibility of leading the football section of the club.
This appointment aligns with the announcement made on May 2, wherein the President and the director of the Football Area, Mateu Alemany, agreed on Deco’s release from his existing duties, effective at the end of the current transfer window on September 2.
As per the release, Deco and Mateu Alemany will continue working together until the conclusion of the transfer window.
In the coming weeks, FC Barcelona intend to unveil more details about the restructuring of their sporting framework. Deco’s return to the club brings with it a wealth of experience and knowledge, both from his time as a player and his future role as a sporting director, as the club continues to evolve and progress.
