The Eastern Regional Football Association (ERFA) will begin its 2026/2027 regional football programme with the Eastern Cup Competition on Saturday, 10 October 2026.
The competitions Preliminary Stage will continue on 14 and 18 October, before the Eastern RFA Division Two League gets under way on Saturday, 24 October 2026. Matches will be played at approved centres across the Region.
A total of 64 clubs will compete in the Eastern Cup, divided between four geographical Zones and 16 groups of four. Each group will use a single round-robin format, with the top two sides advancing to the Round of 32.
The two finalists will earn qualification for the National MTN FA Cup, subject to the applicable GFA requirements.
The Division Two League will involve 56 clubs, with the teams distributed across four Zones containing 14 clubs each.
In his goodwill message, ERFA Chairman Mr. Linford Boadu Asamoah said the Associations main priority was to create more competitive opportunities for footballers.
He said the aim was to ensure players took part in more matches, improved their abilities, gained greater exposure and continued along the football development pathway.
Young referees to officiate Eastern Cup
The ERFA Executive Council has ruled that Eastern Cup fixtures this season will be handled exclusively by referees from the GFA Catch Them Young (CTY) Refereeing Programme.
The initiative is designed to provide promising young referees with practical experience in competitive matches. Their development will be supported through mentoring, supervision and assessments of their performances.
Mr. Asamoah said the Associations wider development plans would also cover coaching education, club administration, youth and womens football, fair officiating and improved competition management.
The Eastern RFA also plans to increase the use of digital match filming and live coverage for selected fixtures through Eastern RFA TV and its official social media platforms. It will additionally pursue sponsorship and strategic partnerships.
The ERFA chairman called on clubs, coaches, players, match officials and supporters to maintain fair play, discipline, professionalism and peaceful conduct throughout the campaign.
We are not merely organising football competitions; we are building an environment where players, young referees, coaches, club administrators and our wider football community can develop and progress, Mr. Asamoah stated.
The Eastern RFA said it wished all clubs, officials and supporters a successful, peaceful and competitive 2026/2027 football season.
