The Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey has announced a change in printers for ballot papers that would be used in the Oti and Western North Regions for the December 7 elections.
This is contained in a letter dated October 25 sighted by 3news.
Although he did not assign reasons for the change, Mr Tettey wrote, “This comes to inform you that Yarsarko Printing Press Ltd, originally billed to print the Presidential and Parliamentary ballots for Oti and Western North Regions will no longer print the ballots for the two regions. Buck Press Ltd will print the Presidential and Parliamentary ballots for the Oti Region whilst Acts Commercials Ltd prints the Presidential and Parliamentary ballots for Western North region.”

Printing of ballot papers forms a critical stage of the election process. That is because it is considered security printing, and some political parties believe purported underhand dealings take place during this process.
The disqualification of Yasarko Printing Press Ltd therefore raises eyebrows. A situation which could have been averted by stating the reason for the change.
Meanwhile, this letter can be said to be part of the efforts being made by the Electoral Commission to be transparent in all processes leading to December 7 elections.
