Election 2024: 22 persons pick nomination forms to contest as independent presidential candidates

The Director of Training at the Electoral Commission, Dr Serebuor Quaicoe has revealed that 22 persons have so far picked nomination forms to contest as independent presidential candidates in the upcoming December 7 election.

Dr Quaicoe disclosed this on Ghana Tonight on August 22.

Here is a list of 20 of those who picked independent presidential nomination forms as disclosed by 3news sources:

  6. Richard Sumah
  7. Kofi Koranteng
  8. Desmond Abrefa
  9. Dr. Agnes Ayisha
  10. Dr. Nii Amu Darko
  11. Wilberforce Andrews
  12. Nana Stephens
  13. Rev. Samuel Worlanyo
  14. Amenyah TK
  15. Robert Roy Reindof
  16. Paul Perkoh
  17. Seth Ntim Agyarko
  18. Stephen Atubiga
  19. Janet Asana Nabla
  20. Sam Ankrah

The Electoral Commission (EC) on August 1, 2024 announced that pursuant to Regulations 6, 7, and 8 of the Public Elections Regulations, 2020 (C.I. 127), the Commission will receive nominations for the elections of president and Members of Parliament from Monday, 9th September, to Friday, 13th September 2024.

The Commission said interested Candidates are required to download the Nomination Forms from its website (https://ec.gov.gh/forms/) from Friday, 2nd August, 2024.

The statement said “Completed Presidential Nomination Forms for each candidate for President shall be signed by:

  1. a) The Candidate.
    b) Not less than two persons who are registered voters of each District Assembly.
    4) The completed Nomination Forms shall designate the person to serve as Vice President.
    5) The Nomination Forms shall be in quadruplicate and shall be delivered personally by the Presidential Candidate or any two of the registered voters who signed the Nomination Forms for the Candidate.

In addition to the completed Nomination Forms, the EC said, the Candidate shall submit four (4) copies of a recent post-card (bust sized) photograph against a red background showing the full face and ears of the Candidate to the Returning Officer.

Sources close to the Electoral Commission also revealed that 69 persons have picked nomination forms to contest as independent parliamentary candidates.
