Prof. Smart Sarpong, a Senior Researcher at Kumasi Technical University, has dismissed claims that the political party that wins the Greater Accra Region will automatically secure victory in the 2024 general election.
As a swing region, Greater Accra is a key battleground for Ghana’s two major political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
While some political analysts argue that winning this region increases the likelihood of winning the overall election, Prof. Sarpong contends that this perspective undermines the significance of other regions.
“Greater Accra is not Ghana, and no one should be misled into believing that winning Greater Accra guarantees winning Ghana. That’s simply not true. We must respect the votes from the other regions; there are 16 regions, for Christ’s sake,” he stated during a panel discussion on Peace FM‘s morning show, ‘Kokrokoo.’
